My main advice for anyone cruising with kids is check out the facilities on board before you book as some ships are fantastic but offer little or no facilities for children. Also just because there is child facilities on board check out that what is on offer is suitable for your child and that it will be running while on board. Some ships only offer child entertainment during main school holidays. Also most ships dont cater for Kids 2 and under during the day in the kids club. However most will allow them to take part in the organised activities with the kids club if an adult stays with them this is to do with insurance and also to do with the fact the younger the kids the more staff is required.
I have been a few cruises with a young child and think cruising is a wonderful experience but remember that there are others on board who may not be traveling with kids so respect the fact that the last thing they probably want to be bothered with is kids who dont know how to behave themselves. If the kids are misbehaving take them somewhere to calm down trust me taking them to the cabin and the threat of spending the rest of day/evening there works a treat.
Although I have to point out that on all the cruises I have been on the kids have always been very well behaved better behaved than some adults on board.
