OK today after weeks of deliberating I am on the verge of booking a cruise on Navigator next summersmilesmi I'm holding an option for a 1 week cruise sailing from Rome calling at Sicily, Athens, Ephesus and Crete with 2 days at sea in between. foxes_279
I got a really good price quoted today and have details of cabin number etc so this evening I shall be reading up on all things Navigator!!
In the end only OV and Navigator fitted in with dates, itinerary we wanted. Navigator won because of price but I think an extra sea day will be nice and there will be more on offer for my 17 year old DS. DH is NOT keen on dressing up so we'll probably eat somewhere else on formal nightsfoxes_279
So all you Navigator lovers have I chosen the right cruise?!24smi

I know she's a huge ship and that as we're going in school holidays there will probably be loads of children.eeksmi I wonder though as this is just a 1 week cruise and sailing from Rome that there may be a different balance in nationalities, number of children etc. foxes_279
We only chose Navigator because of dates, itinerary and PRICE!! However I'm now reading up on hidden costs. Is it true that at most ports of call you have to pay for the shuttle bus?? At least we've only 4 ports and I would expect we'll do one excursion.......need to read up on them!smilesmi

Bank balance is getting low24smi24smi As my DH says ...you only live once!!! To cut costs a bit, the 4 of us are going to share a balcony cabin. It was that or 2 cabins without balcony and we all decided a balcony would be better!foxes_279 It's only for a week so I think we'll survive!! 3 of us shared this year and it wasn't a problem. A balcony will give us that bit extra space.
Atm there are 101 questions to ask but I've got plenty of time to ask them..foxes_279 I need to start reading all those reviews and absorbing everything!! eeksmi

tasmi Wakie! I'm just taking everything in at the moment. It's OK browsing websites, looking in brochures but there I was this afternoon trying to choose what cabin to have and trying to imagine everything. confusedsmiconfusedsmiIn the end I opted for a balcony cabin on Deck 7 as it has cabins above and below as opposed to one on deck 10 which is under restaurants, cafes. One thing I've already noticed is how strange the numbering of cabins seems to be!!!eeksmi

Sue i've been considering this also!! They do the weekly cruises throughout the summer which fits in nicely with the school hols. The only thing that puts me off is that we sailed on NOS in July and i'd like to try a different ship. Don't get me wrong i love the Navigator (it will hold a special place in my heart as it was my first cruise & gave me the wow factor i was looking for) and i'm sure you'll have a great time if you decide to go smilesmi.

Trish in the end it was Navigator, Splendour or OV. smilesmi We've done OV before and would have sailed on her again but the price difference was great atm. Splendour sails from Venice and I would have wanted to spend some time there. Navigator sails from Rome which we visited last year plus is bigger and I decided has more to offer my DS. Tomorrow I shall confirm the booking smilesmi

sue splendour was the other one but like you i decided there wasn't enough for the kids. My kids loved the inline skating on the NOS. Ocean village i briefly looked at....what would you say about OV a friend at work cruised round the caribbean in Feb this year and she loved it. We'll probably end up going to New England as planned....only because we can't fit a 2 week cruise in. Oh just remembered Oceana to the canaries was also an option.

Trish....I loved OV but it doesn't have nearly as much to offer as NOS so might not live up to your kids expectations!24smi We enjoyed the totally laid back feel, the informality of it all...eat when you want, where you want etc. There was still plenty to do and I did enjoy everything being English....prices in £s, English sockets, fridges, kettle, tea and coffee in cabin etc! Many people on board had cruised OV before and age ranges were great too! many families with 3 generations sharing a holiday. foxes_279
I'm glad the NOS has 2 days at sea.....it might give us a chance to experience some of the things on board!!foxes_279 Can I ask what cabin/deck you were on Trish?smileysmi

Hi Sue, sorry had to switch pc off last night (it was playing up) or i would of replied sooner. We had cabin 6500 right at the very front. They are family cabins for 6 and it worked out cheaper to have this than 2 cabins. They only have a total of 8 on the ship all at the front smilesmi

Wow! Right at the front!! I've opted for a cabin on deck 7 towards the back/I mean aft!24smi Just a balcony cabin for the 4 of us.....but should be OK for a week. Did have the option of 2 balcony cabins but cost increased by nearly £800!! If it had just been a couple of hundred may have done so!! I suppose the 3rd & 4th adult prices are worth the sharing!!
Hope your computer is OK today...I understand SS has been having problems too!foxes_279

Hi Sue,
Just found this thread, so I thought I had better post over here instead of the Good Morning threadfoxes_279
Our cruise leaves Venice on 23/7 & we go to Dubrovnik, Ephesus, Olympia, Santorini, Mykanos, Corfu, Naples, Rhodes,Athens & ends in Rome.
We have decided to book a private tour of Ephesus, I read some great reviews on CC about the company. Just started looking into Athens, I'll let you know what I findsmilesmi

Hi Kerry!! So we'll be sailing around the same area at the same timefoxes_279
It's hard to get a balance isn't it with tours etc? Some ports you can literally get off and do your own thing, others you really need to book something. foxes_279 Now mine is confirmed, I'll have to begin the researching!! Keep me informed with any info you think will be useful smileysmi
My DD had a week in Greece with school a few years ago and she did Olympia, Athens, Corinth canal etc. I'll have to get her to find her photos!foxes_279
Summer still seems a very long way off though! At least DD and I have a mini cruise to look forward to pre Xmassmilesmi

I wish I had a mini cruise to look forward to. We went on a 5 night one in April this year and it was great. Perhaps I'll see whats about Spring next yearfoxes_279. Trouble is my neice is getting married in May in Scotland so I think that trip may work out to be a bit pricey.

3 of us shared this year and it wasn't a problem foxes_279.....often we were all doing our own thing in different places etc! I get up early and shower etc and like to sit on the balcony! DS often went to the gym/sauna and showered there so we never really found we were fighting for the bathroom foxes_279 The cabin we have is the top category before the suites so is a bit larger than others smilesmi
Trish I must say a big tasmi I looked at your photos on webshot and there was one of your photos of the aft of NOS which shows the cabin we could have had on Deck 10. I told my DH I didn't fancy it too much as it was right under the Windjammer cafe and I now realise from your photo there's also a pool/jacussi there and I'm sure at times it could get noisy!!! So glad we opted for one on deck 7!foxes_279
