Hi Folks
Been to Gibraltar loads and have been up the rock myself once when I visited while staying in Spain.
Just wondering we are going to Gib next year and the 7 year old has always wanted to go up the rock to see the apes but we were always a bit worried in case she would try and grab them or whatever. However now that she is bigger and realises they are not pets we thought we would go up the rock and see them this trip. Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on this whether they think we would be better doing this port side or as ship excursion. We will be in Gibraltar for about 5-5 and half hours. Were also hoping to do some shopping while here just a few bits and piece you know vodka stuff like that foxes_279. Do you think this will be possible in this time.
I know the ship excursions only last 1 and half to two hours would the shore side excursion be about the same and roughly the same amount of time as the ship.
Thanks

If you can find another couple or family to share, I would definitely get your own taxi (the 7 seater taxis are plentiful). Not only will you save a considerable sum you will see more, the taxi will take you wherever you want and avoid the queues. We did the Apes (not literally of course) the caves and the tunnels then back to town to stock up on falling down water. Back on board for a late lunch.

Hi Donna,
My hubby took my 11 year old son up to the Rock in July. They got a taxi at the port....Hubby said it was really good as the driver knew the apes well and gave lots of info about them (he'd been taking people up to see the apes for 16 years). On the way back down they got dropped off near the shops.....they had to walk back through the main street which is good if you want to do some shopping.smilesmi

Hi Donna,
We went on the Rock tour by taxi in July. We had a small mini bus which we shared with another family. The guide was great, told us all about Gib on the way to the rock and the apes were really amusingfoxes_279. He dropped us off in town but we could have gone straight back to the ship if we wanted.

here I am!!I just hadnt looked in this section for a while.I am off on 12th October.then there will be a lull in my cruises for a while as the babies will be here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There will be loads of taxis eager to ferry you wherever you want to go .They all line up the night before cruise ships . it is VERY easy to do the apes and yes you would still have loads of time for shopping.plus any other sites that you might want. I THINk they charge £20 pp for the Rock tours.
If I can help in any please email me

Bonzy thanks
She isnt interested in any of the other site she just wants to see the apes she was really annoyed last year because we wouldnt take her up to see them but you know she was tallking about going up and giving them a cuddle. I didnt fancy spending the rest of the cruise in the hospital. Weve seen the rest of the sites see I love Gibraltar I hate it when I go a cruise and it doesnt stop there. and no its not just because of the cheap booze.

you can easily get the Cable car and stop off at the Apes den. This you can do independently. You would need to get the local blue bus saying Rosia on it.Then ask for the stop nearest to the Cable car and thats it!!!
Or of course a taxi!!
