I've sailed on both lines and prefer Celebrity.
It's probably because the overall age demographic on Celebrity is higher, not so many children and teens on board Celebrity compared with RCCL.
RCCL is more geared towards families with all the extra activities on board plus Johnny Rockets.
The ambience is more casual on RCCL, fewer people abide by the evening dress codes, this was particularly noticeable in the Caribbean.
However from my experience on RCCL in the Baltic the cruise experience was nearer to the Celebrity one, longer cruises and fewer children.
I don't tend to cruise during school holidays, it's not that I don't like children,
but I do prefer to cruise with fewer of them.
Food is a subjective issue, for me there isn't a lot of difference in them and on both lines the service is generally very good.
Are you weighing up the pros and cons for a possible Alaska cruise?

HI Wakie
have also been on both lines and agree with cruiselover, also celebrity do not make any announcements about what activitys are going on so the celebrity cruises are more quiet.

I have been on both (Celebrity and RCCI) but for Alaska only Princess can do the best as they own the lodges and train if you doing the land tour so the other just hook on to the train and Princess has last part of train so you can the front of train when going around the bends

Hi Wakie, we had a balcony cabin. Not sure how they compare with RC as we had a Grand Suite like you on the Navigator, but it was a lovely room, plenty of storage space, mini bar stocked with booze, nice toilettries etc. Let me know if you need any other info.

celebrity...have little touches...e.g. a glass f champagne when boarding ...free. Free coffee /tea and pastries when waiting for tours in p.m. Cool flannels when coming back to theship ..very refreshing. Flowers in the cabin for Elite memebers. All pax have bathrobes to use while on ship.loads of waiters waiting in line to help you fnd a table and carry your tray in the oasis cafe(windjammer). There also seemed to be less crowds around!!
BUT RCI give you a free gift and their vouchers are better for Crown and Anchor.
Food ...shows are more or less the same.

Is there the same lively 'buzz' onboard as on RCCL or a more sedate atmosphere?

There seems to be more buzz on any ship when the americans are onboard .When on the Navigator in october there did not seem to be much atmosphere as it seemed to be all british, hardley anybody even spoke to each other, even in the lifts.I would rather have a good mix of passengers than all from one nation.

We only had a table fr the four of us so we did not meet ppl for dinner and i enjoy making friends with my table companions.
Yes it had the same buzz and LOADS ofour US cousins.i must add the the two confrontations that i had over poor animals in Santorini and then my trying to stick up for some ppl who had a tour at 7.15 and the ppl infront of me wanted to stay out and cross the bridge in Istanbul...they were English!!!!!smilesmi
