Apparently due to the weight restrictions now for flying within America, they have dropped the semi formal nights, so they guys only have to take one suite. I think it is a good idea, as suites do take up a lot of room in the case, however there is a huge thread on the ** website and apparently people are turning up in jeans in the dining room. I do think that people could avoid jeans at dinner (omg am I becoming a cruise snob).
Only my opinion.

Oh dear now Im going to sound all snobby.....I think if its a formal night and cruisers dont want to wear formal then they should eat in the buffet. To me its like signing up for a School and then refusing to wear their uniform whistlesm
Go on then......rip me to pieces whistlesm whistlesm

No CHubbas I think its all other night other than formal night as they have taken away semi formal I mean they could just say formal and semi-formal but on semi-formal evening gentleman only need to wear trousers no jacket required and no jeansthat would solve the suit problem would it not just a thought

Thats a shame. I wouldn't wear jeans into the dining room either, but it wouldn't spoil my evening if others did. happysm

I totally agree with you Chubbas on Formal nightshappysm. Celebrity had 3 dress codes, formal, semi formal & casual. Looks like they are dropping the semi, in favour of more casual nights.

I totally agree with you Chubbas....I love dressing up and if people dont want to they should go on cruises which are more casual. If I`m dressed up and others arent it makes me feel over-dressed !!

Aww thanks Tricia....I think its all part of the experience and I love it. When me and DH went on the Thomson Spirit in June, we chose to be more casual and had all our meals in the buffet restaurant. I felt quite sad when I saw everyone else all dressed up but I wouldnt have dreamed of entering the Dining Room in my casual clothes.

Thats a similar experience to me....our first cruise was with Thomsons and I hadnt expected people to get as dressed up as they did so we felt a bit excluded. I was totaly prepared for the 2nd cruise though !!!!

I think semi formal is confusing plus every cruiseline seems to differ. I must admit that how people interpret Formal is interesting too......I believe as long as people look smart that's all that matters. The majority make the effort and look nice. I HATE long dresses but have a couple of "flouncy" dresses and a nice tailor cut suit and dressy tops which I wear for formal evenings. I've seen a few men wear jeans for formal nights but with a jacket, shirt and tie and smart shoes they looked good.
Having done 2 casual cruises even some of their restaurants in the evening require men to wear trousers for evening dinner and the vast majority of people on them did wear smart clothes in the evening! whistlesm

Just back from Spain and noticed this thread. It's one that has been discussed for a long time now. When people says 'Jeans' do they mean Jeans or Denims? They are 2 totally different things. Denim is the material and Jeans is a style that has a patent on it by Levi Strauss. Jeans have copper studs at the points of strain i.e the pockets etc. Denims come in a variety of colours and, as we all know designer denims can cost a fortune. Personally I would not wear denims into dinner but young people who pay in excess of £200 for designer trousers in denim would probably argue that they pay more for their denims than I do for a complete outfit so who am I to pass comment. I think in fairness that when someone says 'Jeans' we are inclined to think of blue denims used for work. I think I have the answer 'Times they are a changing so live and let live'.

Have just retired so now have more time to travel in a private capacity. However will have to get used to turning right on boarding aircraft now as I am paying. Off to Bulgaria tomorrow morning for nearly 4 weeks to our place by the sea. Next cruise is on Summit in April when we do the TA from San Juan to Barcelona.

Is this just a case of the average yank being on the larger size, thus their suits weigh much more than ours...
I do like the semi and formal eveings as a lot of people do, after all how often do we get the change to dress up... that is part of making a cruise special for me... but saying that if you want the choice to 'dress down' its up to you which line to go with... I just hope certain lines do not follow this possible trend.

Formal Nights - I can take em or leave em - mind you I do think proper dress should be worn if going into the dining room on these nights. Pam
