We had sailed with Celebrity before but always on their Millennium ships so were a little apprehensive as Century is the smallest in the fleet. However after 7 days on board Century she has become our favourite Celebrity ship. From the moment you arrive on board you are aware of what can only be described as a 'Quality' feel about the ship. As always with Celebrity you are welcomed aboard by the Hotel Director and a glass of Champagne.
The lounges are beautifully furnished and decorated and are of a size that gives an intimate feel. Michaels Club furnished in old fashioned dark red leather exudes quality. The Martini Bar is furnished in white but as the main lights and hidden lights change colour this reflects onto the white furniture. Rendezvous Square is a great lounge with live music every night. The dining room is on 2 levels with the second level forming a gallery to the first. The Mast Bar has lovely wooden tables and large cushioned wooden chairs which are in excellent condition and add to the quality feel of the ship. A great place to sit and relax whilst soaking up the sun with a cocktail.
The wood work on the outer decks is in immaculate condition. No discoloured or flaking varnished railings here.
Our inside cabin was well equipped with a decent sized shower cubicle and decent toiletries. Lots of hanging space, 23’ flat screen interactive television, hidden safe etc. Dressing gowns were provided. Why do some people walk about the ship in them and wear them around the pool? Also provided was a beach bag and a small umbrella. The colour scheme of pale walls and ceiling with maroon coloured bedcover and pillows were well matched and again gave a quality feel to the cabin.
The staff were very friendly and as you would expect nothing was too much trouble. The Captains Club Host was excellent at arranging those visits to the bridge, engine room, galley etc.
The entertainment was excellent and we really enjoyed the guest acts especially the singer Jack Walker. Without doubt one of the best singers we have ever seen on a cruise. The theatre is large with comfortable seats and good view lines.
Now for the down side. Drinks we thought were extortionate. $4 for a bottle of water plus 15% gratuity plus 7% European tax!! No thank you. $24 + 15% + 7% for the cheapest bottle of wine, I don’t think so. We expected the 15% gratuity but not the extra 7% Spanish tax. The food in the main restaurant could have been better. Main problem was that it was not hot. This happened on 3 out of 7 nights. Not what we have come to expect on a Celebrity ship.
However the good points far out ways the not so good. All in all, a great cruise offering good value for money.
